French Eurovision Representative Visits Tel Aviv LGBTQ Community

Singer Bilal Hassani met with members of the LGBTQ Community in Tel Aviv

Bilal Hassani, who will represent France at the Eurovision Song Contest with "Roi", arrived in Tel Aviv this past weekend to film his “Postcard”, a short clip that will accompany his Eurovision performance.

On Friday morning (March 1), Hassani attended a gathering with members of the LGBT community in Tel Aviv. The event took place in the presence of Itay Pinkas, the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipal Council Member in charge of LGBT affairs. The meeting was organized jointly with the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality, The French Embassy in Israel and the Municipal Tel Aviv LGBTQ Center.

Bilal Hassani met with elderly members of the LGBTQ community at the Reich Community Center. After the meeting, Hassani met with 20 young members of the LGBTQ community who were thrilled to meet the rising star.

Bilal Hassani, the French Representative of the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest said during the meeting: "Thank you for the warm welcome. I had an incredible time in Tel Aviv and I am very sad that I have to leave; I was very moved by all of you. The song “ROI” which I will be performing at the Eurovision talks about acceptance and self-love, and I am grateful that thanks to you, I can be myself, regardless of what others will say”. In addition he thanked the elderly members of the LGBT community for “the work you did for my generation”.

Tel Aviv-Yafo City Council Member Itay Pinkas: “Many are inspired by Bilal. He embodies perfectly the values of the Eurovision Song Contest: solidarity between people and nations, the love of art as music and the courage to share a different voice. In the name of the City and the Municipality, we are proud to welcome Bilal.”

The 2019 Eurovision Song Contest is broadcasted by KAN, the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation.
