SHEEP HERD IN THE HEART OF TEL AVIV

In days of yore, grazing sheep served multiple purposes. As they traveled through pastures, they would thin out grass, leaving room for flowers to bloom and grow. With its lack of sheep in modern times, Ganei Yehoshua Park experienced an ecological imbalance, causing wild wheat and oats to overpower other local species of plants and flowers. Now, with the help of a herder, sheep have been reintroduced to Ganei Yehoshua  to revive its greenery. Should this mission prove successful, the sheep will be used to rehabilitate 52 patches of undeveloped nature that remain within the greater Tel Aviv area. Meet Liav Shalem, the ecologist who conceived this plan, along with Gal Assaf, our urban shepherd, to learn more about the sheep and this special method being used to restore Tel Aviv's parks.
